MCN Festival ends on a High Note
MCN's second Festival of Motorcycling ended on a high note, with visitor numbers significantly up on last year and a resounding win for Team GB in the Transatlantic Trophy series.
Captained by Chris Walker, Team UK were victorious in this year’s Transatlantic Trophy flat track race series, winning all four rounds, in spite of spirited opposition from Colin Edwards and the Americans, who had flown over specially for the challenge.
Team USA’s Mike Myers (instructor and director of Colin’s motorcycling Boot Camp ranch in Texas), two-time AMA Supersport Champion and BSB rider James Rispoli, 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Singles Champion Mikey Martin and 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track rider Casey Cahoon battled it out for the silverware with five-time British Flat Track champion Aiden Collins, Flat Track World Cup silver medalist and Superprestigio finalist Oliver Bridley, and the Neave brothers Tom and Tim.
For the second year running, the stand-out feature of the MCN Festival was the variety of opportunities to get involved on two wheels:
Well over a thousand test rides were taken, both on and off road; the latest bikes from BMW, CCM, Ducati, Herald, Indian, KTM, Suzuki, Triumph, Victory and Yamaha could be ridden around the Cambridgeshire roads and visitors could also try Triumph Tiger adventure bikes in an off-road setting, take motocross taster sessions and even ride a selection of classic and vintage machines from the National Motorcycle Museum. Bultaco brought the all-new Brinco mono-bike concept for British riders to test for the first time in the UK.
Stunt aces Steve Colley and Dave Coates entertained onlookers with shows throughout the day, while the National Sprint Association displays and Classic Race Bike Parades attracted plenty of interest, with Chris Walker bringing out his new Quattro Plant Kawasaki racing sidecar out for a spin.
This year’s expanded Club Zone provided a showcase for the huge variety of bikes, scooters, trikes and sidecar outfits being ridden. The Ducati Owners Club GB carried off the trophy for the Best Display, wiile the Vintage Motor Scooter Club was Highly Commended. Best in Show to an aircooled RD250 - still 100% original and owned by its first buyer.
There were bargains galore in the huge Retail Zone, with offers and savings from some big brand names, and lots of rare and unusual finds in the all-new Autojumble.
