Fast Hyde on go-slow ride for Charity
Warwick-based former drag racer Norman Hyde will be making one of the slowest rides of his career this March in aid of Help for Heroes.
Hyde, who made a career out of racing and producing performance parts for Triumph motorcycles, will be joining members of the Triumph Trident Owners Club who are entering the John O’ Groats to Lands End run on a 50cc moped. Built by the Norton-Villers-Triumph group in in the 1970's, the Easy Rider model has a top speed of around 30mph, so the journey will take six days to complete, finishing at Lands End on 1st April.
Starting in John O'Groats, the team of riders will take turns to ride the length of the country and Norman will ride the section from Telford to Glastonbury, a distance just over 150 miles.
Having broken numerous World Records during his racing career, including the Sidecar Land Speed Record at and average speed of 161.8mph in 1972, Norman's biggest challenge will be coping with the slow pace of the elderly moped.
“This is in aid of Help for Heroes, a charity that I feel passionate about, following the death of one of my son's school friends on active service in Afghanistan. So please give whatever you can so that my slow speed suffering is not in vain”.
