BBC MotoGP presenter gets on track with California Superbike School.
BBC MotoGP presenter Matt Roberts swopped his microphone for a motorcycle and got a taste of the California Superbike School’s professional coaching that has helped many world champions, and thousands of regular road riders, realise their potential.
Roberts, who passed his motorcycle test last year, is embarking on a charity ride from the Ace Cafe in London to Valencia for the final round of MotoGP this November, and wanted to develop his riding craft before he departs. He will be joined on the trip by actor Danny John-Jules (best known as The Cat from Red Dwarf) and motorcycle dealer Steve Keys, both highly experienced riders.
“I first came across California Superbike School at a track event, where their coaches were briefing riders” explains Matt, who spent two days at Silverstone, taking the first two levels of the California Superbike School programme and using one of their Yamaha R6 supersport hire bikes. "By the end of the level one and level two courses I found myself doing things on the bike that I wouldn't have thought possible for a rider of my ability and experience only 48 hours earlier."
