Peugeot's incentive to ease congestion.
If 10% of car drivers switched to a motorcycle or scooter traffic congestion would be reduced by 40% according to European study.
The joint investigation by Transport & Mobility Leuven and the city's University focuses on a case study conducted during rush hour on the local section of the E40 highway, one of Belgium’s most congested routes and typical of Europe's densest urban areas. Based on the traffic statistics of a regular work day during the month of May 2011, the results showed that during this peak period, “if 10% of drivers swap their car against a motorcycle or scooter, this has obvious consequences on the extent of the traffic jam”. This highlights the potential of motorcycles and scooters to improve mobility, promising to deliver results that other options - such as cycling or public transport – are unable to match for many commuters.
British commuters are certainly starting to recognise scooters and lightweight motorcycles as the most realistic, feasible and affordable answer to effectively address the problem of congestion - by the end of August this year sales had risen by 20% and 17% respectively compared to 2010.
Peugeot have added an extra incentive to switch to a scooter, with the introduction of a £200 discount on their popular 125cc Vivacity along with subsidised low rate finance that could see customers riding away for £59.91 per month* (which works out at less that £15 per week). With a generous 22-litre storage bay beneath the seat and an additional 13-litre compartment at the front, the compact Vivacity offers plenty of carrying capacity for the daily essentials, or any shopping en route, and there is even a 12v power output for charging accessories on the move.
Normally retailing at £2099, the current promotion reduces the price of a Vivacity 125 to £1899, including a 24-month unlimited mileage warranty, and is one of a number of proactive promotions that has seen the brand's UK sales grow by 82% this year.
