Peugeot Tweet is a treat for town trips
Peugeot's new 50cc Tweet scooter is aimed at the huge number of British commuters who travel a relatively short distance to work by car. Figures from the Office of National Statistics suggest that 71% of UK workers commute by car and three quarters of commuters have a journey to work of less than 30 minutes. Short urban car journeys are highly inefficient, as engines burn more fuel in stop-start conditions. With the average cost of unleaded petrol reaching a record £6.40 a gallon** motoring commuters are increasingly turning to scooters as an alternative – UK sales were up by 10.7% in 2011 and so far this year registrations are 9% higher than last year.
Designed specifically for shorter journeys, the Tweet 50 is the latest addition to Peugeot's range of scooters, developed and priced to appeal to budget-conscious commuters.
The Tweet's 50cc four-stroke engine provides enough power to stay ahead of the commuter pack, while at the same time keeping fuel consumption, and trips to the pumps, to a minimum.
Fully automatic CVT transmission makes it easy to ride and the 16-inch wheels, telescopic front forks and adjustable rear shock absorbers deliver stable and sure-footed handling, even on rough and rutted urban routes.
It’s narrow enough to squeeze through gaps in traffic at just 690mm wide. Combined with a wheelbase of 1330mm and a kerb weight of 100kg, it’s also easy to park.
A spacious dual seat, fold-out foot pegs and chunky grab rail give plenty of comfort and security for a passenger. A large underseat storage bay and handy luggage rack are also provided.
The Peugeot Tweet 50 is available from all authorised Peugeot Scooter dealers, at an introductory price of just £1499 OTR (including a two year, unlimited mileage warranty),
As an added bonus, drivers who obtained a full car license before 1 February 2001 are automatically entitled to ride the Tweet 50 without L-plates (D-plates in Wales) or the need to complete Compulsory Basic Training (CBT).
