NO SWEAT FOR KNOX PROTECTORS
Knox, the British impact protection specialists, now offer three different models of limb protector that meet the new European CE standard. Updated for the first time since its introduction in 1997, the new European standard for motorcyclists' limb joint protectors (EN 1621-1:2012) includes a mandatory wet impact test, designed to test performance in humid conditions.
“Until now body armour had always been tested at ambient temperatures” explains Knox founder Geoff Travell. “But we all know how hot and sweaty it can get under motorcycle clothing and it's important to know that your protectors will cope with these conditions.”
As part of the revised test, samples are suspended above water maintained at a temperature of 70°C for 72 hours in a closed chamber. Then they are sealed in a waterproof bag and left at an ambient temperature (23°C) for 24 hours. After that, the sample is removed from the bag and immediately subjected to three impact tests. This is in addition to the three impact tests performed at ambient temperature.
The hard shell Knox Air v2 protectors, flexible Knox Flexiform and slim fit Knox Lite all pass the wet impact test after hydrolytic ageing, making Knox the only manufacturer to offer both 'hard' and 'soft' options that pass the latest standards.
