Local support keeps racer on track for the Isle of Man

Motorcycle racer Steve Moody from Carterton in Oxfordshire feared his dream of  returning to race on the Isle of Man could have been side-tracked following a crash at Mallory Park circuit last weekend. Steve high-sided his 675cc Triumph Supersport machine at the hairpin on the Leicestershire circuit and landed on his head, damaging his helmet.

"A brand new race specification helmet costs hundreds of pounds and all our funds are already committed to entry fees, ferry fares and accommodation for the Manx Grand Prix, which starts in August" explains Steve. "There is nothing left in the budget to replace the damaged helmet".

Fortunately Oxford Products stepped in and supplied Steve with a brand new HJC race helmet to wear. Winner of the Oxfordshire Business of the Year Award 2014, the Witney based company distributes HJC helmets throughout the UK and responded to the local man's plea for support.

The bike also incurred damage to its body work, in the incident. Again local company KC Autocolours of Witney, specialist in body and paint repairs, have come to Steve’s aid to repair and re-spray the bodywork ready for the Manx GP.

Another  local business 'Can Klean' owned by ex serviceman Clive Latham and his wife Ann, have also come to Steve's rescue with a van to take the team and their gear to the Manx GP and contributed towards race fees.

“The support from local people and businesses has been tremendous; we have had cash donations from £20 to £500 to help towards the cost of the repairs and getting to the Manx GP. I couldn’t do it without this local support. Both Elaine, my partner, and I, are over whelmed by the generosity of local people"

Steve, who is also leading the EMRA pre-injection championship on his 1999 CBR600fx with 8 out of 8 wins, is now back on track to compete in both the Junior MPG and Full Factory Senior MPG.
