DOUBLE FIRST FOR GLOBEBUSTERS IN BURMA
This September GlobeBusters will lead the first ever organised motorcycle expedition to cross Burma [Myanmar]. Tourism has grown in the South East Asian country, following political reforms in 2011, but apart from excursions organised from neighbouring Thailand, there have been no guided motorcycle trips deep into the country.
Riding a pair of BMW R1200GS adventure sport bikes, double Guinness World Record holders Kevin and Julia Sanders will lead a group of hand-picked GlobeBusters customers, starting from Delhi in Northern India, crossing Burma from North East to South West, then over the border to Thailand, completing their journey in Bangkok.
Their route presents some very challenging terrain, including sustained high altitude riding in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal and Bhutan, followed by the dense jungles of central Burma, where humidity reaches 90%. The group will also need a security escort for the final section in India before the Burmese border.
In total the expedition will cover 6,000 miles and Continental have supplied GlobeBusters with their new Adventure Tyre, the TKC70, to test. Launched to the press at the beginning of August, the TKC will not be on general sales release until October, so Globebusters will be conducting the first real-world test of the tyres in the adventure travel arena, recording information on wear and performance, which will be fed back to Continental.
