Ace Send-Off for London to Tokyo Ride
At 9 am on Saturday 22nd April, an international group of motorcyclists will ride out from London's iconic and world-famous Ace Cafe and, while their ultimate destination is Tokyo, initially they will head for China’s first ever Ace Cafe. Opened in Beijing in 2015, they are due to arrive in the Chinese capital after 12 weeks, having covered 13,000 miles.
The group includes riders from countries as diverse as Austria, Belgium, Qatar, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, the UK and USA. Local MP Dawn Butler and the Mayor of Brent, Cllr Parvez Ahmed, will be at the London Ace Cafe to wave them on their way.
From London the expedition will travel across the Channel, down through Europe and into Central Asia via Turkey. From there they will experience motorcycling in many countries where tourism is still in its infancy, including Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Once in China, the group will approach Tibet from the Chinese border, from where it is possible to ride up to the North Base Camp on Everest, (South Camp, in Nepal, is only accessible on foot).
The expedition is being organised and led by GlobeBusters, world leaders in overland motorcycle travel, and half of the group will be continuing their journey when they reach Beijing, riding through Russia to South Korea and then Japan, completing their epic adventure in Tokyo.
Expedition Leader Kevin Sanders has chosen a Triumph Tiger Explorer XCA for the trip;
“It's a double first for me and the bike – the first time I've ridden from London to Tokyo and the first time anyone has done it on a Tiger Explorer. This trip is a pathfinder for 2019, when we plan to be the first operator to organise a bike tour from Twickenham to Tokyo, to coincide with the Rugby World Cup, which is being hosted by Japan.”
Fellow motorcyclists will be welcome at the Ace Cafe from 7am on Saturday 22nd April to join the send-off.
