Bikers leave London for Beijing
GlobeBusters' biggest ever London-Beijing expedition set off from the Ace Cafe on Saturday 20th April and is due to arrive in the Chinese capital in July, having covered 13,000 miles.
The group of 18 riders is truly international, with members from France, Sweden, America and Australia, as well as the UK. They were joined by a large crowd of well-wishers for a great British breakfast and were waved off by the Deputy Mayor of Brent, Councillor Ernest Ezeajughi, and founder of the Ace Cafe, Mark Wilsmore.
Leading the expedition is Dom Davis, aboard a Triumph Tiger 1200XCA, with GlobeBusters' veteran Pete Leach in the support van and directors Kevin & Julia Sanders in the pickup truck. With so many motorcycles on the trip, it has been necessary to add an extra support vehicle, to carry spares and rescue any bikes that become unrideable in remote areas.
From London the expedition will travel through Europe and into Central Asia via Turkey. From there they will follow the Silk Road, through Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, before crossing the border into Western China. Then into Tibet, where it is possible to ride up to the North Base Camp on Everest, and back into China for the last leg to Beijing, where they finish at the Ace Cafe, which opened there in 2015.
