OptiMate Battery Charger for Bikes & Cars

If your garage has more than one vehicle in it — a motorcycle alongside the family car, a classic tucked away under a cover, a camper van that only comes out in summer — keeping on top of battery maintenance can feel like a part-time job. 

Designed specifically to take the pain out of multi-vehicle battery care, the OptiMate 6 - 6A uses AmpMatic, a charging algorithm that automatically reads the battery and adjusts its output accordingly. Connect it to a motorcycle battery and it charges at a safe, lower rate; switch to a car or SUV battery (up to 144Ah) and it delivers the full 6 Amp output. There is no setup, no switching between modes. Just connect and forget.

Temperature compensation adds another layer of intelligence. With a default calibration at 20°C, the OptiMate 6 automatically raises its charge voltage in cold weather to ensure the battery reaches a true 100%, then backs off in heat to prevent gassing and overcharging. Whatever the season, it works correctly without any input.

Alongside covering maintenance and routine battery care, it also doubles as an emergency charger. Found a flat battery on a vehicle that has been sitting unused? The OptiMate 6 can recover deeply discharged batteries from as low as 0.5 Volts — the kind of flat that would defeat most chargers — saving a significant amount of money, particularly on performance cars and motorcycles or classic vehicles, where replacing a battery can carry a hefty premium.

Once charging is complete, the battery is monitored and topped up as needed, and the OptiMate switches to eco mode, drawing less than 0.5W. It can be left connected indefinitely, whether the vehicle is in daily use or laid up for months at a time. 

A clear battery condition readout tells you whether the battery is in good health or approaching the end of its working life; useful information to have before you need to make a journey.

It’s also rated for use down to -40°C, has a weatherproof case, wall mounts and long leads, and comes with two interchangeable SAE leads: one with clamps for bench charging, one with a fuse-protected ring terminal for permanent connection.
