Classic Bike Cables Without Complication

For many classic motorcycle owners, finding a replacement control cable can be frustrating, expensive and in some cases, impossible.

Fortunately, British cable specialists Venhill have spent more than 50 years manufacturing high quality motorcycle control cables in the UK and can produce made-to-order replacements for almost any machine; often within just a few days.

Whether it’s a throttle, clutch, brake, choke, decompressor or speedometer cable, Venhill can manufacture direct replacement cables for rare and unusual motorcycles, combining modern materials and engineering with a traditional appearance that won’t look out of place on a classic bike.

Every cable is made in Venhill’s UK factory to the company’s premium specification, offering improved durability, smoother operation and lighter action than many standard cables.

Key features include marine-grade stainless steel inner wires, which minimise stretch and corrosion, and PTFE (‘teflon’) liners that reduce friction for a lighter, smoother action, while removing the need for regular lubrication.

Venhill cables are also ‘bird-caged’: a specialist process that allows solder to penetrate the weave of the inner wire where it joins the nipple. This creates a far stronger bond, improving durability and helping prevent cable failure under repeated stress.

Despite using modern materials and construction techniques, Venhill’s cables retain a traditional appearance, making them ideal for restorations and classic motorcycles where originality matters.

Cables can also be produced in custom lengths to suit modified machines, while slimmer conduit options are available for easier routing.

Recent examples include an intricate 1:3 throttle cable assembly for Suzuki’s 1969 T250 Hustler (£58.25); a speedo cable for Honda’s VT600 C Shadow (£20.23) that has become almost impossible to find; and the equally hard-to-source twin throttle cable set up for Buell's XB12SS Lightning (£39.38).

Classic bike owners can use the handy Part Finder on the Venhill website to check whether their bike is already listed - with over five decades of cable manufacturing experience, Venhill covers the vast majority of motorcycles already.

If a cable isn’t listed, the team can usually manufacture one using the original as a reference.
